Construction and selection
Key features and windshield engineering.
01
Laminated safety construction
A typical automotive windshield consists of two shaped glass layers bonded around a polyvinyl butyral, or PVB, interlayer. This laminated construction helps retain broken glass when the windshield cracks. It differs from the tempered glass used in many side and rear windows. The replacement must match the vehicle’s shape, mounting arrangement and required equipment to suit the intended application.
02
Optical clarity and cabin comfort
The windshield forms the driver’s main view of the road, making the correct optical specification important. Some vehicles use acoustic interlayers to reduce outside noise, while others require heating or a specific configuration for a head-up display. These features are application-dependent. A visually similar windshield may have a different specification, so confirm the original equipment before selecting a replacement.
03
Sensors, cameras and driver assistance
Modern windshield applications can include rain-sensor areas and brackets for forward-facing cameras. Camera location and the required glass configuration matter when identifying an ADAS-compatible part. Compatibility does not mean the system arrives calibrated. The installer must consult vehicle-specific service information and complete any required calibration after replacement. Head-up display and sensor requirements should also be checked against the manufacturer’s procedures.
04
Prepare a precise product enquiry
Send Nielsen & Moller Canada the make, model, year, body style and part reference or VIN, where available. Include the fitted sensors, camera equipment, heating and display options, together with the required quantity and delivery location. Our team can help identify the reference and confirm availability. Accurate information at the enquiry stage helps installers plan the work and reduces the risk of ordering the wrong variant.
Send the vehicle make, model, year, glass position and quantity. Include a part reference or VIN if available, and your delivery location.
Does every part include the same features?+
No. Tint, sensors, camera mounts, heating and other features vary by vehicle and part reference. Confirm the exact specification before ordering.
Does an ADAS-compatible windshield come calibrated?+
Glass compatibility and ADAS calibration are separate matters. After replacement, the installer must follow the vehicle manufacturer’s procedures for calibration where required.
