What quality means when selecting replacement glass.
01
Understand the terminology
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. An OEM part and a replacement described as OEM-quality are not automatically the same product or carry the same vehicle-brand approval. When comparing glass, ask what the description means for the specific reference. Check the manufacturer, stated specification and supporting product information rather than relying on a broad quality label alone.
02
Fit, visibility and equipment
A suitable replacement must match the vehicle application, including its shape, mounting points and required features. Optical requirements are particularly important for the windshield and any camera or head-up display application. Tint, heating elements, sensor arrangements and electrical connections also need to correspond to the vehicle’s equipment. Two parts with similar dimensions can serve different configurations, so identify the complete specification before ordering.
03
Markings and product documentation
Safety markings and available documentation help identify the glass and the specification declared for it. Confirm the markings applicable to the individual product and market with the supplier. A general statement about quality does not establish every part’s certification, vehicle-manufacturer approval or suitability for a particular repair. Professional installers should also review the manufacturer’s current repair information, including any restrictions on replacement materials and components.
04
Quality continues through installation
Part selection is one stage of a complete replacement. Preparation, bonding materials, installation methods and any required calibration must follow the applicable vehicle procedures. Nielsen & Moller Canada can help with product-reference and availability enquiries for professional customers. Share the vehicle details, part number or VIN, required equipment and quantity so our team can discuss the appropriate glass. Confirm the product specification and the installation requirements before scheduling the work.
Send the vehicle make, model, year, glass position and quantity. Include a part reference or VIN if available, and your delivery location.
Does every part include the same features?+
No. Tint, sensors, camera mounts, heating and other features vary by vehicle and part reference. Confirm the exact specification before ordering.
Does an ADAS-compatible windshield come calibrated?+
Glass compatibility and ADAS calibration are separate matters. After replacement, the installer must follow the vehicle manufacturer’s procedures for calibration where required.
